I’ve been trying to determine what are the most important factors to look at in SEO competition with market samurai (or any other tool for that matter). I know in the FSG that Domain age, backlinks to the page, PR and if they have the 4 y’s are talked about. Is anything else important? And what is the most important?

If you have a keyword that the top 10 all are 8 or more years old, but only one is PR 5 or higher and only one has red for backlinks, and two (two different ones) have the 4 y’s for meta tags, is that worth pursing? (for a keyword that generates 60,500 a month exact….or if it generated less, say 5400 a month…does that make a difference?).

Thanks…I guess I”m really trying to learn some finer points of evaluating the competition and what I can realistically beat and what I can’t.

I’m gonna start out by saying the most important factor is the income opportunity. Ask yourself if there is enough income per conversion to justify the work? Trust your gut. If you feel the competition level is going to take you time, money and resources. Make sure it’s gonna be worth it.

I see too many spend 6 months of work going after something that doesn’t allow them to recoupe their investment.

Don’t get stuck on the keyword data. Yeah…its important but its not the most important step to having success.

It would be difficult for anyone to answer this without knowing more information. Since I’m sure you are wanting to keep your keyword and niche secret. I will do my best to help guide you to a good decision.

Domain Age:
This is important for judging the authority of a website. However, it can also be useless if the website has poor quality content, lots of ads, bad information architecture and a poor backlink profile.

Meta Tags in Market Samurai
These are mainly used for fine tuning. This just lets you know if the page has been optimized. If you only see two with 4 “Y” in red…you can speculate that most of the other Web site have not done on page optimization.

Since Google Penguin is mainly an on-page over optimization penalty. Seeing a lot of Red “Y” could also be a good thing! You would need to review the top 10 domains and see if this is the case.

Page Rank
There is no hard fast rule on this…but I normally don’t go after anything that has an overall PR average higher the a PR 3 unless I’m building a longer term authority site. If all you are wanting to do is setup BTF blog sites. Look at the top 10 and average out the PR. If the average is a PR 3 or under. It will be very easy to break-in to page one considering you have good content and AI on your site.

Keywords & Search Volume
Going after a keyword that has 60,500 a month exact match is fine but don’t forget that you can have 60,000 visitors per month coming to your site if you rank #1 for 500 long-tail keywords the only have 150 exact match searches per month.

Traffic Intent
Look at the top 10 websites and try and figure out how each websites content is written. Are all the sites that are in the top 10 informational or promotional? If its both. Which is greater? Are a lot of the site full of Adsense ads or quietly articles? This will help you know what type of content you will need to create and how to craft your call to actions.

Above all. Trust your gut. I’m sure you know enough about SEO by now. Its mostly common since…and we complicate it.

ok…so how do you know though if it’s coming from multiple long-tail keywords or exact matches? I have “exact” selected in market sam. That’s not enough though I gather? Is it partly the phrase to broad match function to help you determine this?

I’m ok sharing the keyword…it’s kitchenaid mixer. The number one domain is kitchenaid.com. (not surprising).

Market Samurai most of the time will not give Long-tail search volume data. I was just trying to bring to light that there are other less completive ways to gain a lot of traffic. I have attached a screen shot showing google suggest for “kitchenaid mixer”. I personal would know go after “kitchenaid mixer”. I would go after its long-tail. You can use http://ubersuggest.org/ to find those keywords.

on this…if they are mostly informational, is that indicating that the traffic intent is informational or that it’s ripe for promotional content? If they are all promotional…is that good because it’s a buying crowd? Lots of adsense, would that indicate build an adsense site? (the awcpc is $1.45 for that keyword).

If most of the sites have informational content. It can mean Google is ranking content that is mostly informative and not promotional. Meaning you don’t want to create content that have a hard Call To Action. You will want to have a soft call to action.

Maybe this will help..

Adsense sites should have a high bounce rate. Meaning the content is ok…but not great. Which is why they click on the ads.

If you are building a site around an affiliate product. You want a low bounce rate with high quality content that establishes trust and causes the visitor to follow your call to action.

Ok. I’m gonna skip all the bull crap and just come right out with it. There is litterly hours of great content trapped inside Project Profits. Noticed I said “trapped”?

This is because all of what’s inside should have been put into free reports, video books and lead magnets for Mikes and Kelly’s Bring the Fresh product which does KICK ASS!

65% of the videos in Project Profits is Mike ranting about marketing nuggets that are sprinkled with the “Good Old Days” stories of his past successes. Don’t get me wrong.. Mike does know quite a lot about marketing and copywriting. He just needs to get out of the products that he markets.

Is Project Profits a Scam?
